Parent Guidance

Parenting can be rewarding and fulfilling. But it can also be very challenging and emotionally demanding. Parent guidance focuses on supporting parents in this difficult task and helping them to understand and connect with their child. It may provide parents with effective strategies for dealing with problem behaviour in a child and provide information on how to support their child in difficult times or after a traumatic experience. Parent guidance is often provided in addition to a child’s individual psychotherapy, but can also be very effective as a standalone intervention to empower parents to help their child manage his/her psychological difficulties.

Circle of Security - Parenting

As an accredited Circle of Security practitioner, I also offer this 8 week parenting course to parents in a group or one-on-one format.

Circle of Security – Parenting (COS-P) is a relationship-based program designed to enhance attachment security between parents and children.  This programme strengthens parents’ abilities to observe and improve their caregiving skills. It focuses on promoting a secure attachment between child and caregiver, which is critical to a child’s current and future well-being. University-based research has shown that secure children have increased empathy, greater self-esteem, better relationships with parents and peers, enter school more ready to learn, and are able to handle their emotions better than their less secure peers.
